[Tutorial] Comprehensive Video Tutorials

Just as the title says! Starting this morning, I'm creating a series of tutorial videos and throwing them up on YouTube to help our new and amateur Kerbonauts doing what they want.

I'm starting off with basic game mechanics and moving on to more advanced maneuvers as I go along/learn them. Some people don't understand the vague guides posted, so I attempt to translate them in my brain and put them in Layman's terms.

If you appreciate my work and find it helpful please don't hesitate to share it with anyone else who might find it helpful. The first video in the series is pretty lengthy and I babble a lot, but I'll try to cut that down in future additions. It's also in 1080p :D

A slight delay in the next episode. Had some illness today. Will be working on an advanced orbital mechanics tutorial later tonight. Interplanetary transfer seems to be the hot thing now with the release of 0.17 so I'm gonna try to spool out a quick one for that.

Most horrible Russian accent ever...

Awesome. :P

Good going though. We'll never have enough of these (okay, we probably will, but we certainly don't right now!).

Don't feel you need to chase after the interplanetary stuff just because it's hot right now. There are plenty of people out there playing KSP who haven't gotten to the Mun. I bet there might be even a few having trouble getting into orbit. So yeah, back to the original point, more tutorials for KSP = good thing.

My real (faked) one is pretty good. That one was supposed to sound incredibly fake. Like Vlad from Magicka. Now gooooooo~~~~~ BLEIGH

Thumbs up for swedish meal time reference ;)

Hahaha, I'm so glad someone caught that. Made my morning, sir.

Oh yeah I forgot episode 2 part 1 and 2 are up! The episode was much longer than I had planned, but I split it into two parts.

Wait, there was a Swedish meal time reference? I love those guys! They're totally nuts. That and they make the "manliest" (most likely to kill you in one serving from fat content alone) meals. (I admit I skipped through a lot of it just because it's not covering much I don't already know. O.o )

Edit: Mmmmm, brain meats.

Awesome videos man, I actually registered just to say how awesome they are. I've been struggling to circularize my orbit and make it out to the Mun for the last few days, but just today I have managed 2 horrible attempts at landing on the Mun! But hey, I can get a nearly circular orbit reliably around both Kerbin and the Mun. I've got to say that the way you break things down really helps me get the basics of it sorted.

The one thing I have problems with is building a reliable lander and getting it to land. If you could find it in your heart to help out that would be amazing. Would love to get on the TS server but most of my playtime is while I am at work.

Anyways, keep up the great work and I look forward to more!

I appreciate it. One of the things I had trouble with other tutorials was too much of the information was "skipped" or it's assumed that certain things are already understood when they're not.

As far as landers go, try using things that aren't too tall so they don't tip over, and make sure you use appropriate sized landing legs so they don't break. Other than that, I'm not sure what exactly you're having trouble with but if you want to drop me a private message on the forums I'd be glad to do my best to help you out.

Landing is on something like the Mun is a delicate thing. You can get away with really fast burns to change your orbits, but trying to land with quick burns is a recipe for disaster. Slooooow, loooooong burns at precise angles is the name of the game. I use MechJeb to assist me in this; the actual landing autopilot is way too far off for my purposes, but using a combination of the Translatron's KEEP VERT function and Smart A.S.S., using SURF for most of the way, and RETR GRAD when I'm really close and want to set-down, I can usually land within +/- 1 degree of latitude and longitude of my intended landing site.

Of course, it is entirely possible to land without MechJeb's help, but goodness does it ever make life easier by taking the load off your brain. CRM (Cockpit Resource Management, which basically means having multiple people do different tasks so no one gets distracted by task switching or focusing too much on one thing, and every necessary task is completed) doesn't really exist in a game where there's only one pilot. :P
