Loading bundle asset definitions for Mac

Recommended Posts

*sigh* I recently purchased KSP version 3077 for my Mac OS 11.2.3, and it keeps stalling at the "loading bundle asset definitions" stage.  I have absolutely no mods.  I have searched through forums for the past three days, and done the following:

*Moved the KSP.app to the desk then back again;
*Removed the PartDatabase.cfg;
*Unsuccessfully found the Memory Module;
*Added something like "dx211" (I don't remember exactly) to the terminal;
*Changed permissions for the program from "everyone" to "read and write only;"
*Launched the game from the KSP.app, KSP Launcher, and the Steam site."

I'm stumped.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

For me, moving the application file to the desktop and back has always worked.   I’m wondering if there is something else going on.

My next step would be to download KSP again from scratch.  Then, once again, move the new KSP app file to the desktop, and back again.  Start with only doing that, I have never needed to do anything else.

Did you purchase through Steam?  If so there may be other steps which could help, I do not use Steam for KSP..

Also, what is the file path to your KSP folder?  (Where is the KSP folder located..).  I don’t think this matters much, but I keep my KSP folders on the desktop (in another folder..)

If you were having issues with security/privacy settings, I think you would not get as far as you are into the loading process, so I doubt that is the issue.

Edit- don’t use the KSP launcher.   It hasn’t worked in, well, ever.  Also, I do not suggest deleting .cfg files, or any other files.

Also, if you are changing permissions, change the permissions for the entire folder KSP is in, not just the app file.

If the above steps do not work, here's the next thing I would try:

  • Right-Click on the KSP.app file, to bring up a menu.
  • Click 'Show Package Contents
  • ---->Contents
  • ------>MacOS
  • Open the KSP file, shown with a terminal icon next to it.

If that works, and allows you to successfully open the game,

  • Quit back out of the game.
  • Re-start KSP by just clicking on the KSP app file (with the spaceman icon next to it.)
  • If the game now starts normally, you don't need to do that every time, it should work by clicking on the KSP app from now on,

I’m on OSX, playing on a MBP.   I download directly from the KSP store, not Steam.

The problem you are experiencing seems to be common on Macs, regardless of where you download from.  The solutions I mentioned have worked well for me.  The problem has been around at least two years.
