Trying to attach a Z-400 Rechargeable Battery in orbit

Recommended Posts

I'm trying my first in-flight part attachment to complete a contract.

-I have the Z-400 in a SEQ-9 Container Module

- I have rendezvoused with the inoperable satellite

-I have an Engineer in EVA in construction mode.

I can drag the Z-400 out of the SEQ-9, but how do I get the Engineer to move it and attach it to the satellite?  Is it because it is too big for one kerb?  If so, how would I get it to the satellite?

Thanks, all.

Here are a few thoughts.

  • Does your engineer have an open inventory slot?  Kerbals have two inventory slots, which are often both already occupied by the EVA jet pack and a parachute.  You can get rid of the parachute by moving it to your pod’s inventory.  That will free up one of your Kerbal’s inventory slots.  You’ll need to keep the EVA jet pack of course..
  • Not sure if the Z400 battery is too big to place in a Kerbal’s inventory or not.  If that is the case, you will need to place it (attach it to something) when you pull it out of storage.  Ideally your Kerbal will be close enough to the satellite it needs to go on when you pull it out of storage.
  • Otherwise you’ll need to move and re-attach it, possibly several times, to get it into position.
  • If it will fit in your Kerbal’s inventory, you should be able to drag it over your Kerbal, and a Part Action Window will pop up, so you can drop it into your Kerbal’s inventory.   Again, each Kerbal only has two slots, so if they’re already occupied with the jet pack and parachute, you may need to store the parachute somewhere else.

Thanks for the help.

I relaunched with a grappler this time, so now I'm attached to the satellite.

The Z400 is too large (50L) for the engineer even without the parachute and jet pack (40L).  So I attach the Z400 to the rescue ship and now I want to move to the satellite and try to move it there.

However, there is nothing to grab on the satellite.  Do you have any suggestions? Is there an handheld grappler or something like that?

I'm so close...
