I try to open the cheat menu and use the other hot keys like ALT-F9 but when I try to use the cheat menu it just pulls up my calculator.

Depends on what it is.

It sounds like you have something like a keyboard overlay (often installed with fancy keyboards to make use of the extra keys), or some other keyboard overlay that allows you to launch apps using the fancy extra keys.

If you don't know which one then you can try shifting the debug/cheat key in the Settings of KSP to a key combo that isn't nicked by the overlay.
