Sometimes unable to Recover Vessel or go to Space Center post-flight

Recommended Posts

KSP Version: 1.12.0.3140; Windows x64 on Steam

After spacecraft touches back down on Kerbin and stops moving, I am sometimes unable to recover the vessel, go to the space center, or quick-save; clicking on the proper buttons does nothing, forcing me to revert the flight or watch as seemingly nothing happens.

Screenshot of the craft in the water, with the Recover Vessel/Space Center buttons showing up and not grayed out, as if I'm allowed to use them.

In a previous session, I had the same issue where my command pod was on a slight hill near the water, and was trying to figure out if there was a way to force the recovery. After a while, I noticed the pod seemed to be slowly sliding down the hill, and thought maybe the slight movement was preventing recovery, but I don't know for sure.

This has happened to me after touchdown on Kerbal and after walking on the Mun and planting a flag.

I also noticed that my point of view seems by default to be below the surface and I can see through either Kerbal or the Mun into space (I can actually see Kerbal from the far side of the Mun).

I have this exact same issue with the same error message however it has only started happening on recent flights. It seems that a craft that has landed on the Mun which decouples another controllable part i.e a rover results in this bug.  The only fix I've found is to make sure I don't decouple anything while landed on the Mun.

My son and I find ourselves in the same situation as the OP

After playing a bit and upgrading my mission control and tracking station to level 2 each, it hasn't occurred for me since.

Noteworthy... Neither of us are very advanced. We're not doing mun missions or anything that complex yet.

I thought maybe putting the science parts on the side of my command pod may have caused the issue, though adding a service bay and putting them in there instead didn't fix it.

I got around to upgrading just my mission control and haven't noticed it ever since then either, though I've also upgraded my tracking station by this point. I'm always able to recover my crafts while directly controlling them when I should be able to, it's not like I need to back out to the tracking station to recover them from there; it just magically started working like it should.

Computers/programs are just weird sometimes, I guess
