Saves instantly corrupted 1.12.1

Recommended Posts

So I just started playing ksp again but everytime I save my game and go back to main menu or quit the game and open it again I cannot load my save games. It just says 'save incompatible'

The only solution I found after searching the forums is opening the save folder, renaming my latest manual save to 'persistent.sfs' and it suddenly sees no problems at all and loads fine.... until I save again, leave the game and try reloading.

While this is a temporary sollution I would like to fix this. I use clean ksp, no mods at all.

Steps I have tried:

- verifying steam cache

- removing/reinstalling ksp

- uninstall > remove ALL user data (saves, hidden folders ect) > reininstall > fresh game. (problem persists)

This happens in career, sandbox and science modes

Frankly I am stumped, no issue like this is on the forums as far as I can tell. Again, renaming whatever save file I make to 'persistant.sfs' makes all problems disappear, so the save file itself is not corrupted at all.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi, thank you for the response.

As I said in my post, no mods. I used to play with kerb enigineer, alarm clock and a few other things installed via CKAN 2 years back or something. Thats's why I purged the temp files etc, just to be sure the mods were not causing the issue.

I rename my saves from whatever names I gave them during play eg: 'minmus landing', 'suborbital' 'duna launch' etc. I also tried just 'test' etc to see if the problem was spaces or something.

When I open the save folder, all the saves are there but ksp just won't open them. If I rename ANY of the saves in the main folder to 'persistent.sfs' the campaign will load with no problem at all to the state corresponding to when the save was made.

Hope this clears it up some more!

Well, d'eres yer pra'blem.

Use the built in "save state" feature instead, it has a real name I just can't recall what it is. It should be available from the "esc" menu when you're at the KSC, and else where.

But, if you really want to do it your way try a copy-paste instead.

edit:

now that I'm in front of the game. The "Game Paused" menu which is available everywhere is what you are after. It will allow you to both save and load the game state.

Hi again!

I think there is a misunderstanding here. I do use the game's save feature. When I am ingame and want to save I press ALT+F5 to save,  name my savegame to something appropriate save and then quit the game.

These saves (made ingame) are instantly not able to be openend by KSP after closing the game and opening it again. UNLESS I go the save folder and then manually rename my 'whatever.sfs' to 'persistent.sfs'. Then it opens fine.

My apologies if my question and actions were unclear, if you still have questions please ask!
