Por Que No rocket program (very basic!)

here are the two rocket that I used to learn the ropes of the game.

This is the first space program I did, after burning and crashing countless other - ehm - empty testing capsules. The program mostly consisted in strapping boosters to basic rocket design that worked well enough to get into orbit and hoping for the best.

The research mostly resulted in self serving rockets and allowed for low cost training for space maneuvers and crew endurance. Those design will need a radical change before entering in active service for putting payloads into orbit.

There are two solutions that emerged and were finalized in the PQN1 and PQN2a designs. The first was driven by the necessity of creating a very low cost design to test low keo orbits and testing the standard space operations. Hence the two stage solution, one stage to break atmosphere and another to enter orbit and reentry. The second was designed for high orbit operations and is roughly an enhancement of the first design. The last stage has a larger tank, for longer missions, while the entire rocked had been strapped with boosters to compensate for the added fuel weight; also added in this version after difficult field testing are two stabilization components and struts to keep the entire rocket setup.

The first one has just enough oomph to get a stable low orbit, circularizing it and safely get back.

it's very simple, and if you don't get into orbit at the very start you won't have a second chance

the second one gets a lot of fuel up there. the solid fuel stages are subdivided in two groups, staged so that the other four can be turned before the first four are fully spent without losing speed, this way they get you up to 8k instead of only 7k. Useless to spent them all where the atmosphere is thick!

this one could get you very far, up to keosynchronous orbits, but you have to spend your dV wisely if you want to get back.
