“Do I need to dock?”

*concerned Bellein noises*

I am also concerned about the addition of the RTGs and comms dish on that plane which will only add drag and weight- there should already be an RTG on it and you can just keep the experiments to take/transmit home from another craft.

*watches to the end*

OK, I have several concerns, mostly around the fact that you’re budgeting the plane’s fuel for something other than flying off of Laythe; there should be a decent reserve in it, but not that much!

Tylo gravity assist to capture into Jool orbit. Learn it, love it, use it for literally every Jool mission to save a lot of fuel getting to just about anywhere in Jool’s SOI.

(Don’t mind Eeloo, it got lonely and decided to drop by for a visit)

You had a perfectly good gravity assist that gave you not one, but two Laythe encounters and lowered your apoapsis considerably in between, but instead you chose to try a 2500m/s capture burn- with enough aerobraking to cause heating issues but not enough to actually slow down- and waste most of the plane’s fuel so it can’t SSTO any more, with the backup plan of slamming into Jool almost vertically?

And you blew it up!?!? ;.;

Why are you doing all this? Put the fuel in the craft with all the engines and no extraneous mass (*cough* hitchhiker module *cough*) and send that one home while the other one does the Laythe “landing”nursing RCS to deorbit.

Problem is the one without a hitchhiker had huge extra tankage and engines that weigh much much more ;-)
