Lowest orbit around Kerbin!

Recommended Posts

Your mission : Get in a low orbit around Kerbin!

Ultra hard mission : Do a lot of things in space (Landing on Mun and such) and then completing said objective.

As soon as people post I will start making charts. -Sesni Kerman

Also, this title will become sort of misleading, but another mission!

Same as above but... The highest one!

HIGHEST ORBIT RECORDS :

So far : #1 Sesni, Apoapsis of 5 million I forgot. (I forgot other numbers)

The lowest possible stable orbit is 69,077.55 metres. Flying manually I just managed an almost circular orbit with an apoapsis of 69,219 metres and a periapsis of 26,214 metres. The map view was so jittery that the numbers were almost unreadable, and as soon as I warped to 5x, it recalculated the apoapsis and periapsis with about 100 metres of error.

Huh. I guess I'll change some stuff to make it highest instead.

This is my first post and the first challenge I have undertaken. I went for both the lowest and the highest orbits around Kerbin. The lowest orbit had a periapsis at 69,090m and an apoapsis at 69,098m. This is what it was before and during a warp, but after the warp they changed slightly bringing the periapsis below the 69,077m limit of the atmosphere, so I'm not sure if my lowest orbit will count, although I believe it would have remained stable had I not gone into warp.

My highest orbit has a periapsis at 83,181,447m and apoapsis at 83,256,378m. It is a stable orbit beyond the orbit of Minmus and I believe it's at the very edge of Kerbin's SOI.

I have images of the two orbits, but I apparently can't upload attachments at this time.

Yeah, that sounds about right for the edge of Kerbin's SoI to me.
