Just what the (imaginary very hot place) is up with the docking ports in 1.12.x?

Suddenly they stop working despite working on identical crafts in another orbit.

They trigger correctly, magnets pull in, but on some crafts they plain refuse to connect.

Currently on 1.12.3 Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS.

Same designs has worked for years, and same design still works _sometimes_ and then they stop.

Edit:
Just had a brainwave and tested to use an engineer to go EVA and remove the docking port on the smaller craft and put it back.
And suddenly it worked again ...

Something seriously fishy is going on ...
