Chapter 1

Date: 2059: Year 20 day 5

Location: Common room of the Interstellar ship Discovery named after the famous ship of 2001 a space odyssey and the first and proudest creation of the Alpha 1 Mars based manufacturing station

Destination: the K-124 system, discovered to have life 23 years ago by the LUVOIR space telescope, soon to have humans on its habitable world K-124 C

 

The light of the Discoveries engine light up the void of space as it performed its retrograde burn, for 20 years it had been traveling to K-124 and it was nearly to its target,

at this news the crew had been giddy, doing their tasks with as much vigor as had been done at the beginning of this long, long mission,for it had been long, and it had been worth it.

Captain Miko Tezuki reflected on this in the common area, rereading for the thousandth time her favorite book ''The Expedition'' which was about the exploration of a fictional alien planet and its unusual biosphere, while K-124 C in all likelyhood would not be nearly as strange as the fictional Darwin IV it would be just as exciting.

BLEEP BLEEP! the alarm shook the common area, startling Miko and the rest of the crew members in it

ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!! Bellowed the voice of Sasha Delancy, the chief scientist of the Discovery and Miko's close friend ''LARGE OBJECT IN VIEW OF THE SHIPS CAMERAS, ON COURSE FOR COLLISION!''

Miko immediately left the common area ''A large object?! The redundancy shields at the front of the ship were designed for small dust clouds, not anything like that!!! ''

30 seconds later she reached the back of the ship where the command center was, '' Ok Sasha, whats the situation?''  Miko demanded, pretending to be in composure  ''I thought I yelled that over the speakers Miko!'' Sasha responded ''There is a large object heading towards us! which I neglected to mention has an ETA of 5 minutes!!'' 

''Adjust course by 15 degrees, we will be out of the objects course immediately, we have the Delta V to afford this, the ship was designed by SpaceX after all'' Miko ordered, ''I thought that you had permission to mess with the ships trajectory yourself girl! Wasn't that a thing they gave you due to Captain Kirks doing suicidal things in the avoiding risk section of the training simulations?''

''Yes Miko''  Sasha said ''But I implore you to look at the camera feed of the object as we perform this maneuver'' Confused Miko did, and soon found her answer as the ship followed the orders of the crew, at first the object did nothing, just like a regular piece of space junk, but then, to the shock of the Discovery it was consumed in a fiery flash of light, matching itself up with the discoveries course once again.

''Aliens?'' Miko asked ''Your the exobiologist'' Sasha responded, ''But yes, and I do not believe they want to ram into us either''

Some clarifications about the redundancy shields, they are not the kind of shields found in star trek but are instead dead mass designed to take the brunt of a collision

Chapter 2 is hopefully coming next week, I am fixing the more retarded lines of speech in it and am working on some of the lore.

 

If you did not realize already the mysterious ship is Kerballed and it is quite far away to have an ETA of 5 minutes due to the speeds both ships are traveling at.

Chapter 2.1

Date: One month before Chapter 1

Location: Duna Infrastructure Station D.I.S

Valentina Kerman furrowed her brow, it had been a couple days since Wernher Von Kerman and Gene Kerman had postponed the Daedalus 1 mission (of which she would be the head crew member!) and had decided to send her to investigate what from all classified documents appeared to be a comet that had burned away all of its volatiles while capturing into Duna orbit. ''You can't be serious!'' she said for the hundredth time that day, ''Its a !&@* comet!'' ''You postponed the test of our first Daedalus craft for a comet!?'' Wernher and Gene just gave each other the same worried looks that they always did when something was even slightly uncertain (NO THE BUILDING WILL NOT TURN INTO A MONSTER IN THE NEXT SCENE OF THAT MOVIE! STOP BEING SCARED YOU TWO!) and reassured her that everything would be explained en route the the rendezvous.

After entering the cockpit of the ''serpent'' crew capsule Valentina detached from the D.I.S station and plotted a maneuver to rendezvous  with the comet ''Ok Valentina, I know you have been itching to know why we have been so secretive about this'' said Gene through the comm's ''Ya think?'' replied Valentina  ''Stop with the sarcasm Valentina this is really exciting!'' Gene said ecstatically ''we think its possible that...'' That what!?'' Valentina said '' We think that the comet may have burned away its volatiles in the process of being captured by Duna!'' Gene screamed like a little girl

There was silence in the capsule for 5 minutes ''Aint that exciting- ''SHUT UP!''

 

(Authors note: I have decided to post little mini chapters to make the wait time more bearable, this is why Chapter 2.1 is shorter then chapter 1.)

Time for some worldbuilding!

A species that exists in the stories universe that I am not sure I will introduce into the story are the Etrucians, a species existing on a planet with 95 percent the mass of earth that orbits a star with 60 percent more mass then the sun.

The reason intelligent life has developed around a star with such a shorter lifespan than the sun is because the increased radiation from this higher mass star has allowed mutations to happen more frequently and thus allowing evolution to happen quicker than on Earth, the planet that they live on is going through an age analogous to that of the dinosaurs, which may seem strange for a planet with intelligent life but will make sense soon.

For the Etrucians come from a island.

The Etrucians originated on a island roughly the size of central Europe that had long been separated from the rest of the planets evolutionary tree, on this island there was a form of mammal analog that rose to prominence due to the  megafauna on the island dying out due to a bad supervolcano eruption that caused many plants to go extinct or appreciate in scarcity due to the ash and dust causing a cooling effect on the island (which was in the equator so that's obviously a bad thing for the creatures living there) and blocking out sunlight, leaving the Herbivore megafauna with almost no food and causing their population to go extremely down, and because of this causing the Carnivores to overhunt the herbivores due to THEM now not having much food, thus leaving the megafauna extinct. Eventually the mammals rose to prominence which eventually resulted in the Etrucians.

When civilization started on the island it only took a couple thousand years to achieve unification of the island due to it's size, due to this early unification innovation happened at a very slow pace, only speeding up during civil wars, eventually over a longer time period then the entirety of human civilizations existence the Etrucians reached the technological level of the early renaissance due to an event analogous to the black death breaking up feudal structures of government and allowing greater urbanization.

Currently it appears that the Etrucians are on a path to a sort of constitutional monarchy, they have also begun to colonize the continents as well and as a side effect of that colonization the Etrucians are killing the continental megafauna in an attempt to secure their colonies safety.

Chapter 2.2

Date: same as chapter 2.1

Location: 5.5 Kilometers from Duna comet

After 20 minutes of Valentina yelling at Gene and Wernher for being ''children in adults clothing'' Valentina and the serpent capsule arrived 5 kilometers from that infernal comet she had been tasked to study, ''Initiating rendezvous maneuver mission blockheads at the controls'' Val said into the comm's,''Copy that Val, by the way I think there may be a glitch in your suits microphone, we heard something weird from it'' Gene replied,  ''Yes, glitch! definitely a glitch!'' assured Val.

As the comet got closer it sparkled beautifully, in such a way that if you squinted at the top of the still 3 kilometer away thing, it almost sparkled like polished metal,

ORANGE polished metal.

Wait a second!

''KSC we have a problem''
