GPU heating and crashing rapidly

Recommended Posts

Good day people.

I've been playing KSP for years but as of the recent update Im finding that my GPU is reaching high temps of 70 degrees right from launching the game - fans start getting higher to compensate even during the loading bar.
I can play for a bit, but then the entire game will often go to a black screen and completely lose all video signal forcing a pc hard restart to be needed, or CTD with the unity 2019 error window.

Only mod installed is engineer redux via ckan updated to the latest, but I fully removed all mods and the issue still occurs.
Running windows 11 with nvidia gtx 970 FTW 4g, driver updated to latest with no change in the issue.
I have removed the GPU and given it a clean on the fans and heatsink to ensure this is not the cause, and no change there either.
Log file does not end in any error, just cuts off at adding a part.

It sounds to me like you aren’t getting proper cooling. Are all your PC air inlets clear and have nothing obstruction them? Also, are you over clocking your GPU? I know that if a GPU is being over clocked it can cause it to reach high temperatures and lead to loss of video when it overheats (and doesn’t have enough voltage to clock at that speed). Therefore, it would lead to similar symptoms to what you described.

Hope this helps.
