Adding a docking port to a station in orbit

Recommended Posts

I've built a station that's meant to be for a long-term mission to Duna. I want to add an extra docking port to it, so I docked a rocket to it with an SEQ-24 Cargo Storage Unit containing a Clamp-O-Tron Docking Port. I have an engineer on the station, but for some reason I can't take it out of the storage unit to place on the side of the station. How could I go about doing this?

The Engineer needs to be on EVA and close enough to the cargo storage unit.  Does the SEQ-24 have both KIS and Stock inventory slots?  To move things from Stock inventory slots, just click on them with in Stock Construction Mode.  To move them from KIS inventory slots drag them.

EVA the engineer, enter EVA construction mode by clicking the hook icon on the right, remove the docking port from storage and attach it where you want it. Engineers can only do construction (or destruction!) when on EVA in EVA construction mode, not from inside the vessel- how would they be able to attach stuff to the outside of a vessel when they’re inside?

Okay, so I managed to get the docking port on, but I've run into an issue. Due to a design flaw, I need to move (or destroy) some small fuel tanks attached to the sides of the station for the station itself to work, but some of them can't be moved because they're attached to a larger fuel tank in the centre. Is there any way to fix this?

You should be able to remove them if you go close to them and use a bit of camera clipping trickery to see ‘inside’ the structure of the station. As long as there’s nothing attached to the fuel tanks you want to remove, they should be removable; I’m assuming stock parts only, but which tanks in particular?

Screenshots of the station in orbit would also help.

Unfortunately I can't upload an image, because it says to upload the image via URL and I don't really know what that means (I'm new to this website). But I can describe the situation. I've got a Rockomax X-200-32 fuel tank in the centre as part of a sort of refuelling section for the station. Attached to the station are two rings of 8 FL-T200 fuel tanks each, the tanks of the lower ring behind attached to the tanks of the upper ring. Some of these fuel tanks lie directly beneath 4 nuclear engines, as a result the engines produce no thrust.

Edit: Okay, I actually just figured it out. Thanks for the help.

You need to upload your pictures to an image sharing site (e.g. imgur) and then use the “insert image from URL” button to embed the images in your posts.

You can only remove parts that have nothing else attached to them and which are not the root part of a vessel. This can mean some docking ports become the root part after undocking and so cannot be removed, but usually it’s fine.
