I'm trying to build a space station, preferably micro that can be carried in one go. But i don't know where to start, that's the issue!

Oh, okay, whenever I launch a micro-station (I do this in my "I'm bored silly and want something to do" insomnia nights), here's what I always include in a single launch station:

  • A hitchhiker container (I make it a rule that if I am going to send anyone in space, they have to take a friend along. It's not fun if you cannot drive someone else crazy as you go insane).
  • A matching diameter monopropellant fuel tank - for fine-tuning and adjusting the orientation of the station.
  • Antennas. Never forget the antennas.
  • Batteries. Never forget the batteries.
  • Solar panels. Never forget the solar panels.
  • A docking port of some kind. You'll need to bring your brave Kerbalnauts home and rotate a fresh crew at some point. Or not. :)
  • A fuel tank of the same diameter and some small LFO rockets (in radial layout) to get the orbit you desire. Nothing fancy.

And you can put that all into orbit using a two-stage LFO rocket setup with the third stage being the station itself.

If I had my game running, I'd take a picture of the stock station I currently have in orbit.

Oh, thanks for the tip! If you don't mind, could you send me a example by any chance?

Sure, will take me a bit to fire up the game. I've just finished dinner and need to go clean up the mess. :)

In case you're wondering, black bean and rice enchiladas. It was my night to cook.

@YourAverageExistingKSPNoob - because you asked, here's the Moho III launcher complete with a small station.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/dpx32tltgatdgwb/Moho III.craft?dl=0

It's pure stock. I had to go in and reset the flag to a stock flag since I use a custom flag in all my games. Other than that, here's some info about it:

  • 0 activates the solar panels - they are set to toggle so you can extend and retract them.
  • 9 extends and retracts the antenna and some key science experiments.
  • U toggles lights on and off.

Everything else is staged and you can use your space bar. Including the command pod, you have space for up to five Kerbalnauts. There's plenty of batteries, a docking port, and the first and second stages are overpowered. On your way up, around 7,000 m to 10,000 m, begin to point the rocket about 10% to the east. The first stage will easily get you to 62,000 meters. At this point, you should change your orientation to nearly horizontal and coast until your altitude is around 72,000 to 74,000 m, then burn your second stage at full power until your orbit is round(ish) and the lowest point is not lower than 72,000 m. The station is now in orbit.

Jettison the second stage, use the smaller last stage to fine-tune your orbit. :)

Enjoy.
