Engine/Separator Mantlet

Recommended Posts

Hi,

When I build my rockets  I get disturbed by the look of the separator/engine mantled.

Is there anyway that KSP uses the size of the separator and not the size of the engine for  creating the mantled? I hate that it narrows with a "smaller" engine

That bothers me too.  There will be better suggestions than mine, but here's my solution:

I use the Engine Plates instead of the decouplers.  The engine plate goes above the engine, you can adjust the length of the engine plate assembly through the PAW )Part Action Window).  The Engine Plates are stageable, and will drop the lower stage just like a decoupler.  So, using an engine plate takes the place of a decoupler.

Engine plates do weigh a little more than a basic decoupler.  But it's worth it to me, and I find it a good solution.

Simple answer, no. At least not in stock KSP- you could use a fairing to create an interstage, or if you have the Making History DLC then engine plates are another option, but both will add more weight and you’ll still need a decoupler on top of the fairing (engine plates have one built in).
