Duplicate Pilots

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the game, I've been playing for around 2 days and I've run into as small problem.

I keep coming up against the problem of duplicate kerbals piloting my ships. For example; I set Jeb off on a mission to the moon and landed but accidentally jettisoned my engine so he is stuck - I was pleased to have an excuse for a rescue mission. I head back to the assembly and load up another rocket with an extra unmanned pod on but when I prepare for launch I see Jeb is the pilot for this one as well.

Of course it seems like a tiny problem to most but I'd just prefer it be another of the pilots. I've also heard that when two duplicate kerbal's get close together one ends up being deleted and I don't want to get all the way back only for one Jeb to disappear.

Is there anything I can do in the future to avoid having the same kerbal spawned twice in a row?

Thanks in advance.

Mee too when i launched a rocket and it failed :( crashed into the sea and they survived(the pilots are:Bill Jeb and Bob and i pressed space center instead of end flight incase i find a rescue boat craft file) then at the second launch..guess what its the same pilots good thing the 2 identical trios were far enof so that no one will despawn.

Hmm. Usually this occurs when there are problems for the game writing to the persistence file... Make sure KSP's in C:\Games\KSP, not on your Desktop, or Program Files, or any other folder Windows makes. If it is, then unzip a new copy into C:\Games\KSP and try sending a few flights up and see if the problem still occurs.

I'm sure file location isn't the case. I have the game installed in its own file on my second harddrive, and this happens to me all the time.

Your second hard drive likely isn't c:\Games\KSP

KSP REALLY wants to be in C:\Games\KSP and odd things can/will happen when it's not.

I have noticed no preferencial behaviour for file location, but I now see that I did misread what vexx32 said. I would use that if I hadn't loaded my primary drive down with steam games.
Well, technically, as long as KSP is in a folder you create, it should be fine. However, it also depends on a variety of other things, such as operating system, permissions set on the folder you create, the level of control your account has (admin/limited user/etc). It might be worth checking what the permissions in that folder are... If you don't know how to check or change file and folder permissions, it's worth doing a Google search and checking up on them. Ideally, your user account should have Full Control of KSP's folder, including all subfolders.
My Mun base currently has three different iterations of Bill Kerman in it. Also, I don't think they delete each other, because I lined all of them up for a screeny, and all three are still there!
If you put them together in the same pod, two will vanish.
