Unfinished Mun Probe Rover Contract No Signal

Working on the subject contract, my rovemate appeared to just have no signal to Kerbin. I landed an engineer and installed an communotron 16 antenna. I still have no signal, even though the lander 100m away from it has full signal with the same antenna. It appears the rovemate does not recognize the external antenna. I also have a relay antenna in mun orbit that passes over the site. The probe control will go from yellow to red when it's on the far side, but always shows no signal and the question mark on next to the comm status even when in sight of Kerbin and/or the relay antenna.

The rovemate is powered and not in hibernation. When I release the brakes I have no control.

Please help me salvage this contract.

 

I've tried:

Uninstalling all mods

Loading past saves

Moving the antenna to many places on the rovemate, including nodes.

Cycling hibernation options

Going back and forth to tracking station

Repositioned wheels

Adding & removing batteries & solar panels

Confirmed settings in all 4 wheels

Figured it out. While I was fiddling I retracted my relay antenna. I noticed I Had lost connection with my lander, which narrowed it down pretty fast. I guess I fixed the issue with the rover antenna but didn't know since the relay was down.
