M.A.X. AEROSPACE Single Stage to Eve Spaceplane.

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the sales pitc- mission debriefing of the recent success of the new IP SSTO 4.5.1! We have done the impossible again by creating a ship that takes off from the runway gets to another planet and safely lands there.

Eve and Laythe are the intended targets, although a Dunan landing may be possible as well.

Very nice, do you have a flight plan I can follow?

This is a bit more involved than most flights, but here they are:

ASAS on. Throttle to full, engage the jets.

Just before the end of the runway pull up sharply(ASAS off briefly here). (It doesn't like to unstick without the drop off).

Drop the up pressure enough to control it and swing yourself to a heading of 90.

Pull up to vertical. Engage the nuke engine when it's ISP is greater than 400(found out by right clicking it).

Continue flying vertical until 7,000 meters, then add 10 degrees of pitch over (the first circle).

When you start to lose speed kick in the aerospikes.

When your speed reaches 300m/s turn to 45 degrees.

Disengage the jet engines when they reach 50% efficiency.

Hold the 45 degree pitch over until your prograde marker surpasses you, then follow that maker as closely as you can.

Bring your apop up to about 72k.

About 15 seconds before apop burn to circularize. You should have a couple drops in the aerospikes plus both central tanks.

I think you should add more panels for more drag on entering the planet perhaps? Or would that reduce the range by a lot?

I was pulling at least 15g's during re-entry, I would have to check the mission log because the g-meter doesn't go any higher.

So it has plenty of drag.

Yeah Eve is an easy planet to land on but what about Duna? Surely you can get there. Anyway I think I'll have to work out the best gear for my mission. Thanks!

I attempted a landing there, I had enough drag, but came in a mountainous region and spread myself over 5km of mountain. It would be tricky, but if you got near to one of those big, flat, low lying craters you have a near perfect landing spot.

OK thanks! I can get there with ease it's just the stalling I'm worried about. ;)
