Mason Shipyards -- Specialising in air and spacecraft

Welcome to Mason Shipyards.

We* construct completely stock air and spacecraft that fill a multitude of roles, and are constantly testing new designs and advancing exploratory missions into the outer reaches of space.

With a wide range of ships to (eventually) be chosen from, we are sure you'll find what you are looking for. If not, you can request a design to be built, or pointers on how to build your own, and the flight techniques recommended. Bear in mind, however, that while we advance our reach into space, we only have designs fit for what we've accomplished. This means that if you want a Laythe lander, but we have only reached Duna, then it may be a while before a design that meets the requirements you want actually appears.

If you want to modify a design with mods you own, go right ahead.

Currently, we have 5 designs available for use, and at least 2 more are on the way.

--------------------

Orbiter 1

A medium-sized orbital vessel, Orbiter 1 is capable of reaching a very high altitude, with fuel to spare for re-entry. Possibly capable of landing of Mun or even Minmus, but this is not recommended, not least because of the lack of landing legs.

Note that Orbiter 1 comes with a standard Mason Shipyards Heavy Lift Assembly that assists in reaching higher orbits. Slower computers may struggle upon launch.

Craft file to be placed in VAB folder.

--------------------

Hawk 2-B

The original Hawk was commissioned as a short range orbital fighter for use against enemy vessels. However, it has only been used against debris thus far. Hawk 2-B is an uprated version capable of gliding to the surface. For re-entry, it is highly recommended that you maintain a shallow gradient on the descent. If you are unable to glide or are going to splash down, there are parachutes to deploy. If a catastrophic failure occurs, the capsule can be decoupled and is equipped with its own parachutes. Comes with a Mason Shipyards Standard Lift-off stage.

Note that as this vessel is completely stock, no weapons are mounted.

Upon lift-off, do not attempt a gravity turn below 15000m, as this will most likely result in the vessel falling over to the side you have turned towards. Also, try to avoid making significant adjustments to re-entry gliding, as this will cause the ship to tumble almost uncontrollably.

Craft file to be placed in VAB folder.

--------------------

Hopefully you have a good experience with the ships we produce. Let us know what you think, and please tell us about any problems.

--------------------

All of the designs are copyrighted, so you cannot claim them as your own, rather obviously. If you want to enter a ship from our shipyards into a competition as your own design, it would be a breach of the copyright to do so. (In other words, no stealing!)

*By 'we', I mean 'I'. Just me. I can be fairly busy, with school stuff mostly. If I get a backlog of requests, I will generalise the orders if possible.

It may seem trivial, but I really appreciate the use of aerodynamic nosecones in these designs. I know they're only for aesthetic purposes at this point in the game (in fact, all they do is add mass an drag), but hell - they sexy!

These look really cool, if you guys need any help. I'm here. you can send me a message if you want to contact me. I'm more of an aircraft builder than a spacecraft builder though.

Well, thanks for the offer of help, especially considering it is just me running the Shipyards, however I don't think I need it quite yet :P

I should have some more ships up in a few hours, hopefully :D

Soarer 3

The Soarer 3 series of aircraft are some of the finest to have emerged. There are four models in total, ranging from the simple Soarer 3 commonly used as a training aircraft, to the more powerful Soarer 3-XFS, which carries 2 more tanks of fuel and can go supersonic.

The version pictured is Soarer 3-XFS, which can just about travel to the continent to the west of the KSC before running out of fuel.

There is an emergency decoupling system installed to eject the cockpit, a common feature on many Mason Shipyards designs.

Craft file(s) to be placed in SPH folder.

Shuttle 2-C

Shuttle 2-C was initially conceived as an orbital vessel, but eventually came to be designed with a long range, polar expedition in mind. However, it was unable to reach the North Polar ice cap, but by merely a few kilometres. The aircraft is commonly used to transport cargo and personnel between the 2 KSC's nowadays, but it is a relatively steady flyer and the perfect choice for those who want a large aircraft for general use.

There are parachutes mounted on the plane if you feel they need to be used during landing.

Note that, during take off, the aircraft requires the drop off at the end of the runway, but activate the SAS as soon as you start pitching up, otherwise the tail section will crash into the terrain.

Craft file to be placed in SPH folder.

If you would install a proper aerodynamic mod *cough* they do actually have an effect.

Sorry. "Proper" and "mods" don't go together for me. I'll wait for proper aerodynamic modelling to come to the vanilla game, where I can be fairly certain it's (relatively) standardised and balanced.

The vast majority of mods i've played with so far have ended up making the game significantly easier, at least for me, and the challenge of doing stuff is why I like KSP.. so things getting easier, means less fun for me.. so other than protractor and KER, my install is completely vanilla. And even those two made interplanetary transfers a whole lot easier, though they were borderline frustrating before.

Swiftwind Pod

The Swiftwind Pod came to mind as a lightweight, RCS powered orbital vehicle. Many expected it would only be suborbital, which it was initially. However, with the addition of a light booster stage, it turns out that the little pod is capable of reaching an apoapsis of at least 600km. It's not advised to extend far beyond 800km however, due to the limited fuel that the RCS tanks provide.

Note that these pictures were taken during testing of the craft. The full model has an extending ladder along the dorsal surface. Comes with a Mason Shipyards Standard Lift Assembly MkII.

Craft file to be placed in VAB folder.

Expedition 1

The Expedition 1 heavy lander is designed to get 3 Kerbals to at least the Mun and back. After strenuous testing, the primary goal has been achieved. It is highly likely that this lander can also reach Minmus and return to Kerbin safely, but until testing is carried out, we won't know this for sure. While there are also parachutes mounted to the outer tanks, the inter-planetary capability of this ship is also currently unknown.

The ship is rather unique in that it has a return stage that separates from the lander stage. However, after a landing on Mun, there should be enough fuel in the latter stage to get into a Munar orbit that nearly reaches the SOI of Kerbin. Use the return stage to get back home.

If the fuel consumption rates seem worrying, rest assured that there is plenty to land on Mun and return, otherwise we wouldn't post it in this state.

Comes equipped with a Mason Shipyards Super-Heavy Lift Assembly (6 more SRB's than a Heavy Lift Assembly). Slower computers will most likely struggle upon launch.

Craft file to be placed in VAB folder.
