Whats the fastest time to Mun and back?

The fastest time to land? Because if you just want to get near the mun and back then slowing down seems like a waste, use the mun to slingshot yourself instead.

You do get a little extra velocity from the planet if you launch eastward but how it compares the savings in drag from launching straight up I'm not sure.

At what point have you gotten "to" the Mun? if you just mean getting into it's SOI, well then barrel at it full throttle the whole way, But if you mean landing, then I guess you'd want to spend the first half of your journey accelerating, and the second half decelerating, and an idle part in the middle with a duration depending on how much fuel you lack (relative to the cost of burning full throttle all the way there and back)

If you asked me to ballpark it, I'd guess you could get there in about an hour of kerbin time on a rocket that pushes the limits of physical stability (1000 parts)

It doesn't matter how much fuel you use, he's asking about speed.

you can only do a direct ascent if the Mun forms a 90 degree angle with the launch site

The angle depends on how fast you go.
