Air Speed Record Challenge

Recommended Posts

One day when I was playing and I had a question in my mind, what is the highest speed for a jet that players have ever achieved? So I decided to post this.

(@AquaAlmond Productions challenge is pretty old so i wanna start a new one :D)

This challenge is about air speed record.

Everyone make their own stock aircraft and try to reach the fastest speed as you can! You can put your submission  in the comment. Video or pics is ok

Here are some rules for the challenge.

1.No cheats at all.

2.No SRB (Solid Rocket Booster)!

3.It must be all stock (no mods)!

4.Mk1 parts is not allow.

5.No rocket engine except rapier engine.

6. It must be on Kerbin.

7.No more than 6 engines and 4 intakes.

8. You can use timewarp to gain speed.

9. It have to be in 1 stage( no decuplers, separators)!

10.It must take off from the runway(any).

11.You can't go above 10.000m.

12.It must have enough fuel to fly at least 25.000m.

13.Any version of the game.

14.It must be a plane, rocket with a bunch of jet engine is prohibited.

15.It must be full crew control(no drone)!

16.It can land on water, it don't need to land back on KCS(crashing is.... umm, ok too).

17.The aircraft should have a name.

Please fair play and follow the rules.

This is just a challenge so have fun :D and enjoy it.

Hi, good challenge, I will try to tackle this!

May I ask why no Mk1 parts? They might be more aerodynamic than Mk2 or Mk3.

___
Highest Speed over Land: 1558 m/s

I used Engine Pre-Coolers to attach two Whiplash in addition to the two Rapiers, I hope that is OK?
Main problem is heating, next version will get a heat shield. If we are allowed to fly higher we could go faster (less drag and heating).
Thanks to the Pre-Coolers I was able to still accelerate a little after the Shock Cone Intake boiled off.

___

Highest Speed over Land: 1750 m/s

Is rotating the heatshield 90° into the airstream so that it has less drag considered cheating? If it is in normal position my max speed is 1193 m/s.

I am in a slight dive here. And I crashed into the sea.

____

Highest Speed over Land: 1936 m/s

Use a fairing in front for ultra low drag. Two Small Heatshields rotated 90° in front to protect it. Wings mounted at 0° instead of 5° so you don't have to push down to stay very flat. I crashed this one on landing.

Because it's more aerodynamic so it not allow. The goal of this challenges player to push thier creation to limits so they can make more type of plane :) Have fun! And the plane looking good :D
