[0.17] The MSL MK3

Recommended Posts

NEW: MK4 Edition released!

Hello KSP community! I am back with another vehicle, take a look.

The MSL Mk3/MK4 is a Movable Spacecraft Launcher it is capable of getting where you want it to be on land and the launch itself into It's own death by oxygen loss. space. As I have been sick this week and my only entertainment has been KSP. So I thought that i should give this one to the forums.

History:

The Mk1 was a proof of concept although did not get into space. Plus it could only taking one kerbal.

The Mk2 was modded with life support and solar panels. It was also Completely unmanned

The Mk3 was where i scrapped the previous designs and build a bigger heavier and more unsuccessful rocket. The Mk3 does also hold up to three kerbals.

The MK4 has a decoupler for the pod!

But fear not! It is still very a very reliable Kerbal mapping craft if you wish.

Rules:

Don't go beyond 15 m/s while driving. (Like it can do that)

Don't let the Space Kraken get you!

Don't Break the game

Read the Instructions

Instructions:

1. Go where you want to go.

2. "Pump" the brakes until at 2 m/s then it's safe to hold them

3. Disable the jet engine.

4. Raise the wheels

5. Throttle up to at least 70%

6. Stage.

Facts:

84 parts

Download: MK3, MK4

There, I grammared it up.

Typos aside, this reminds me of that huge platform that NASA uses to transport its spacecraft to the launchpad with. It has a couple hundred wheels, is smegging huge, and costs thousands. It's kinda like a launchpad on wheels, only with no tower and/or water interior.

I like it for originality.

Don't be sad. Whenever I publish something, only THEN do I see huge holes in every square inch of my work.

And with Youtube videos, I can't fix it without re-uploading and confusing people.

Your thinking about the crawler/transporter that was used to move rockets from the saturn program, then the shuttle, from the VAB to the pad. It cost millions (~$14 million each or so) instead of thousands, and was tracked instead of wheeled.

I saw one on Vsauce, and I saw it had many wheels, with no tracks. That's probably a different one.

Yay for grammar nazis. :P

And that's the only crawler/transporter the US uses to move rockets. (well, they have two.. Hanz and Franz)

There are multi-wheeled vehicles used for moving heavy objects, but AFAIK, they aren't used to move aerospace parts, and aren't rated anywhere near the 12 million pound lift capacity hanz and franz are (though one of them is getting refitted to up it's capacity to 18 million pounds, for the SLS program.)

Oh, ok. I saw someone mentioning Vsauce in the comments, that must be it.
