Floppy Rocket Help :)

Recommended Posts

So, just returned to KSP from a short hiatus, just in time to discover the wonders of 0.17! :D

The problem is, using the new parts my rockets are floppier than an adult novelty item. The parts are so weakly-joined that the stock decouplers actually cause my rockets to disintegrate when fired. And of course you can't use struts on a linear rocket to shore them up, so...

Help? :)

Struts work much better now than they used to. The stock decouplers allow for stuff to attach to them now, which is welcome. Tip: Start above the engine, and go to the decoupler using quad symmetry. Also, place them so that they contact the bulged parts of the decoupler. You'll see what I mean when you try it.

Also, try using asparagus or onion layouts. Try browsing through the General Discussion and Spacecraft Exchange for ideas.

Cheers,

MaverickSawyer.

The new parts are exactly twice the dimensions and they behave as you'd expect. i.e. they have four times the surface area but are taking eight times the weight.

In short, they're half the strength but twice the height so you should be able to achieve similar functional heights to your previous rockets by stacking half as many up.
