dansiegel30
This may be happening simply due to the instantaneous shift in CoM causing a proper physics force. However, as the devs have decided to not spend the resources to show a full and proper animation with physics of the kerbal opening the hatch, exiting the hatch, closing the hatch, this all happens instantaneously due to THEIR design (which is fine, thats a lot of work for a small bit of graphical pizzaz). Therefore they should certainly make the kerbal have a mass of 0 when outside the spacecraft but still hanging on. They can then put the proper mass back on the Kerbal once it let's go of the spacecraft...which would be a good thing, because ramming your Kerbal into your spacecraft with your jet pack would/should have a real/proper physics effect. However if you gently approach the hatch, and press F to grab, there should be no insta-forces either. Therefore if you do things very gently, EVA activities should never affect the orbit of the spacecraft.
