The Chimera I and the Chimera II refueler/shuttlecraft by ThePsuedoMonkey

XmtsMKSl.png

Both models have five seats, RTG power, computer backup, roving capability, a 1m tank of monopropellant, standard and junior docking ports, the mass-less landing gear, two large 1m tanks of fuel and a single LVN, which gives them a maximum of 5 landing/takeoff cycles.

The Chimera I: 13.58T, 31 parts, an initial TWR of 2.71, and a total dV of 6970 unloaded and 6700 with the four external seats occupied. HTOL design allows you to save a bit of fuel during landing by not killing all horizontal velocity, and during takeoff by accelerating with the rover wheels. An RTG is embedded inside the RCS tank, and a linear RCS port is attached to the command pod to make takeoff easier. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6828vVl_-ZodGxhWVhZTlFnYUk/edit?usp=sharing

The Chimera II: 13.79T, 39 parts, an initial TWR of 2.67 and a total dV of 6800 unloaded and 6530 with the four external seats occupied. VTOL design simplifies landings, gives more docking ports, and makes roving in IVA mode feel awesome. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6828vVl_-ZoM3VYMmRZUUdUU2M/edit?usp=sharing

Tricorne IIb

I've added an improved version of Tricorne IIb - now only 64 parts! (only fuel lines and few struts were changed, also a misplaced generator was relocated)

Adjusted version: http://www.fileswap.com/dl/eS8Fpdi1B/

P.S. Also a few more statistics:

Fuel capacity is 2170 liquid fuel

With full fuel it can land from 15km orbit with using just ~600 fuel and needs only ~280 fuel to get into 15km orbit (when taking off with total of 360 fuel), which means it can deliver over 1200 fuel at a time :)

THATS NO MOON base shuttle design by TheoS.

every thing needed is in the link:

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1SAbhZWeDcYbGdZbkpIYVo4cEU&usp=sharing

the craft is made up from 48 parts and weighs a total of 37.455 mass units.

In this design there is a high fuel capacity for several shuttle missions in and out of lunar orbit with a passenger capacity of 4 but can be piloted unmanned and has 3 standard docking ports.

i spend 2 maybe 3 hours on the design, it is small and easy enough to manoeuvre with a central centre of mass and centre of thrust.

Thanks all!

TheoS.

  • 1 month later...

Harv, are you set on ep12 being the last? What if you moved a utility or two a few km's away and began some sort of outpost? That'd give you better FPS at the main base and provide missions to move things/kerbals between them. Remember you've also gotta fix the Bull's Eye station!
