New Player - Question about ship building

I built myself a nice satellite that I wanted to launch into orbit, and then I built a ship to haul that into orbit as well as all subsequent parts. The problem is I can't for the life of me figure out how to load my pre-made satellite onto my current ship I've built. Do I have to build my satellite and all parts onto my hauler file?

Do I understand right that you made the satellite, then in a separate file built a ship to launch it?

Basically, the issue is that the current setup for ship building requires one unalterable command pod (manned or probe) around which the entire ship is built. Either you can take your satellite file and build a launch vehicle underneath it, or use the Subassembly Saver / Loader mod to import your launcher to the satellite file.
