Interplanetary Mainsail (WIP)

Recommended Posts

In this challenge, you have to get to orbit, go to another planet, land, and return to Kerbin using only Rockomax Mainsail engines. It does not have to be the same mainsail. It does NOT have to be SSTO, GusTurbo.

RULES

The only engine you can use is the Mainsail and stock RCS thrusters. You may not use RCS thrusters to do any burns.

You may use any fuel tanks or basically from any mods, as long as they aren't overpowered. List mods you use.

You can use docking IF It was place in orbit using mainsails.

POINTS

Reusable 2,000: Use the same mainsail engine, and it's an SSTO.

Daffy Dock 500: Dock your ship in orbit

Ain't No party like a Kerbal party, 'cause a Kerbal party don't stop 250: Have at least 8 kerbals on the mission.

Lights, Camera, Action! 500: Simply record and voice over a video and post it on the forums.

300: Make a pendulum rocket that works.

Tony Probe 200: use a staypunik 2 probe core and no solar panels or rtgs, batteries are okay.

Communicator 600: use RemoteTech

Planets:

Moho: 1,000

Eve: 1,500

Gilly: 500

Mun: 200 (It is a bonus, you still have to go interplanetary)

Minmus: 300 (Ditto)

Duna: 800

Ike: 600

Dres: 900

Jool: 700 (landing counts as simply entering the SOI for this one.)

Bop: 250

Laythe: 700

Tylo: 1,000

Vall: 700

Pol: 300

Eeloo: 1,050

The name of the mod you're thinking that requires working satellite dishes is called RemoteTech, I presume.

And a few questions:

1.) Are those scores on the bottom for the various planets for landing? Because (and I hate to say this as usually someone proves you wrong) I think I can safely say that a rocket using only mainsails CANNOT ascend from Eve after landing.

2.) Why does Minmus provide less of a reward than the Mun? Minmus requires more dV to get to, if anything it should be switched with the Mun's score- or does the score stack as you go outwards (as in, getting to Minmus is the 200 point reward of the Mun plus the 180 point reward for getting to Minmus).

1: Yes, and I think perhaps someone could come up with a way to do it, so I didn't just leave it out.

2:Minmus is easier to land on. But, being that you are using a mainsail, it would be alot harder. Thank you. The scores do stack, but only if you go to both the Mun and Minmus. I will make Minmus a greater award.

Thanks for the help with naming the remotetech mod.

This is a little late, but here is an Eve mainsail-only lander I was working on.
