Simulate in background while minimized or Alt-Tabed in fullscreen?

I would like my ships to continue moving even when I Alt-Tab out of the game to do something else. There is an option "Simulate in background" and I have this option turned on. The trouble seems to be this option does not work when running fullscreen.

What I see is:

The background simulation works for me when I switch to a window.

The background simulation does not work for me when I am running windowed and minimize the game.

The background simulation does not work for me when I am running fullscreen and Alt-Tab out of the game (my guess in the game is minimized in this situation).

There may be an option to run in full screen windowed borderless, that should allow you to alt-tab out of a full screen game. Otherwise, you have to run windowed (smaller than screen resolution) and not minimize, but keep the window open. I think the game deactivates when minimized no matter what the settings are.

I can't remember if someone posted the way to run in full screen window or not, but I think it was here before the forum wipe. I don't recall the method at this point, but I think it may have been something you add to the command line?

You have to add '-popupwindow' to your KSP shortcut's target pathname for full screen borderless.

This, except for some reason my craft in a 100% stable 80Km orbit around Kerbin started re-entering. I rushed to see my craft in flames.

I do not know if I observed it wrong before, or if is was not working temporarily for me, but since then the backround simulation definitely works for me when I Alt-Tab even in fullscreen.

Just use the -popupwindow command.

i find it runs significantly slower (half the speed?) when it isnt the focus. which is interesting.

Not really, Windows always gives more processor time to the Window in focus.

Same here... Not even got the popupwindow thing on my startup icon. I just run the program and run it in fullscreen, when I need to do something else I alt-tab away and it keeps running in background (and annoyingly I still hear the sound lol). If I am planetary scanning I turn the master sound down.

Sounds like something is weird with your install. Is this full version or demo btw?

Thank you for this topic answer.  I have been having this problem on my laptop and my battery has been draining while KSP runs in the background!
