I can't be the only one who has noticed that the continent that KSC is located on seems to resemble Africa right? In fact the whole planet seems to resemble earth in some distant geologic past.

The human mind likes to find similarities in many things.

The terrain was originally randomly generated and i think it was taken from a side that was doing random seeds.

Every update since then has been manual improvement though.

Oh cool, so Kerbin was randomly generated? I didn't know that. Was every planet also random? At least to begin with? So in theory we could have infinite planets?

Ironically of the four best locations on Earth to build an equatorial launch complex, KSC would actually be roughly close to one such sites. The four locations are:

• Jubba Delta, Somalia
  
• Manus Island, New Guinea
  
• Baía de São Marcos, Brazil
  
• Christmas Island, Australia
  

And mankind has yet to build a launch complex on any of them, though US Army did consider build up Christmas island at one stage. Somalia is a pretty good location for a launch complex, if it wasn't for you know, warlords and pirates.

I always think to myself, "I'm coming in over Africa" when reentering. It's an odd coincidence.

It's neat that the terrain is generated randomly- what that means for the future is pretty cool.

Yep. Early last year we had people calling it "Kerfrica" or "Kafrica" during the great K-Syndrome outbreak of 2012.
