Is it possible to attach more horizzontal micronode?

Recommended Posts

Picture below, look like additional micronode works only on Y axis, if I attach another micronode in X or Z it snaps correctly but remains transparent and not attached at all, am I missing something or is an intendend feature? :D

There is a bug somewhere regarding cubes like those.

It's a general problem with the node system in that it'll only do the first attachment of a part on two nodes even if it has more.

Rotating them to the node that's at the top and bottom by default is the one you're trying to connect will work.

... I still have to figure out how to close/weld a structure like that without using struct connector.

Due to the limitations in the game-engined you can not!

Creating the illusion of a closed loop with struts is currently the only way.

Yes, adjacent docking ports will be docked together when you go to the flight scene.

So, you tecnically just place them really close in the VAB and then when the physics kicks the magnetic force dock the ports together, not what I was looking for but nice trick thank you!

not quite, they are "docked" before the physics start.

not quite, they are "docked" before the physics start.

I would say they aren't, it's the first physics steps that checks for docking port distance and glues them up.

For example while working on this:

I noticed that sometimes docking ports wouldn't connect properly even if they were lined up nicely (even with symmetry and EdTools to provide vertical snap) - it was probably due to engine induced wobble on ground when i had mainsails connected to orange tanks, and having slow pc didn't help either.

Btw that ship works with no struts and decouplers, perfectly flyable by hand. Lifts ~250t to LKO :)

Also if you undock a part of a space station and exit to space center before it drifts away it will dock immediately after returning to simulation (useful for realignment or closing docking loops in space).
