Oh God... I Killed My First Kerbal On A Dead Is Dead Mission

Was really shocking... I was transferring three Kerbals via EVA to an orbital return vehicle and had successfully transferred two when the third one just went POOF! when he impacted the side of the craft a bit hard.

But what was more amazing was that one of the surviving Kerbals went to being sad all the way down and he kept looking over to the empty seat. Have Squad actually made the Kerbals feel for their comrades or was it just a weird quirk. Whatever it was, it was really heart string pulling for sure. The sadness was tempered though by having the other guy have a party in the bottom seat lol... Swinging his arms and probably singing bawdy rugby songs too. I was sure he was singing "I SURVIVED" at one point lol.

It's weird how you get attached to these little green guys.... I think that Squad should invest in making them have more character rather than being kookie kutter kerbonauts.

I think they plan that in the new update with the database on the kerbals. Or maybe in a later update, where skills for kerbals are implemented.

Anyway, ladders and lights. They are the two both most important things when transferring kerbals via EVA.

I remember when a bug knocked one of my kerbonauts orbiting Mun off the craft, and into collision course with Mun. I was like "NOOOOO Ronviinnnnn! OMG OMG - what to do?" Some frantic button mashing, and i regained control. Half of EVA tank later Ronvin was on highly eccentric, skewed orbit - but not in immediate danger of becoming a stain on the surface. It cost a lot of dV and monopropellant to retrieve him safely, and i had to scrub the mission - but i was proud like a devil of getting all three guys back in one piece  Yeah, i love all my cucumber men, and their safety is worth more than any mission.

Congratulations, you now know the (true) purpose of a space agency.

I had never lost a Kerbal on EVA before now. I just was rushing because I wanted to undock and land at KSP on the same orbit as I docked.

But I found that POOF! event had a knock on effect... BOTH MY NUCLEAR ENGINES VAPOURISED (or fell off... whatever the case they were not attached to the FULLY ASSEMBLED AND READY TO LAUNCH TO DUNA ROCKET).

God I hate that little Kerbal now. I now think that other Kerbal was sad because the rocket is just another waste of metal in orbit. Oh well, I did have some design alterations I needed to make so there is the silver lining... or gold mylar lining.

Oh, no. Not at all :) I'm a fan of Stargate - "No one gets left behind." credo was burned into my brain by 15 seasons of great show(s) about exploration, discovery and friendship years ago.

Same!

I love their different personalities. Wirhwin, the guy who's been flying my shuttles doesn't like going up.

After we reach apoapsis, his face goes from :0.0: to :).

Lanlong, who's been taking the test flights of the plane like version of that shuttle's orbiter, (and SSTOs) is a lot happier when in an atmospheric flight. He'll smile wildly even when crashing, but becomes nervous when orbiting. "Why is my plane flying sideways?"

Good old Bob seems to get space sick. And car sick when roving for too long. :( But, take him for a walk, and he cheers up. :D

Or maybe this is my imagination being too active...

Nuclear engines seem to have a thing about vaporising.

I had these land in this dramatic arrangement quite by chance.

Yet they were gone the next time I visited. This is not the only time that has happened.
