Polluting the system...

So for the longest time I was all OCD about keeping Kerbin SOI clear of debris. However, I have found that interplanetary missions are much easier if I asparagus stage my interplanetary rockets (IE: drop tanks as they empty along the way). So while I have a clean Kerbin for now, my solar SOI is starting to get a noticeable amount of debris in it. What are the chances some of it will come back to Kerbin and have to be cleaned up??

Should I not drop my nuclear rockets when the tank they are attached to runs dry? It keeps my TWR up without hurting my Dv.

you can add a probe+solarpannels to every stage let some fuel in it and use it together with the alarm clock addon, then you can set alarm for kerbol apoapsis and burn retrograde there.

Then you should be save that they did not hit the kerbin soi.

there is an awful lot of empty space in space. i don't think you'll see them again anytime soon. might be a fun mission to go intercept on of them and see if you can snatch it up and dump it somewhere it will despawn

I would like to have something that makes the whole stage self destruct after it's discarded, leaving no debris.

Something like this guys making. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/25830-PLUGIN-0-19-1-TAC-Self-Destruct-%28v1-0-1-Apr-28%29/page2?highlight=destruct

It shows potential.

The other option would be to set up any stage that's lost into an interplanetary orbit as a probe in its own right. Wack on a mechjeb radial unit, or a probe core, solar panels, a dish and some instruments, and there you go.

A bonus probe.

I wouldn't worry about the debris in kerbol orbit. My issue is with Kerbin orbit. I have a trail of junk going from Kerbin all the way out to Munar orbit from countless munar base building missons.I'm hoping that the debris field will have a munar encounter and be hurdled into kerbol orbit. OR they will just rain down on the mun.

Thats even easier with the debris in the Kerbin SOI

For LOE debris probecore with solarpannels and reservefuel to bring them down on kerbin.

For the way to Minmus/Mün plan a intercept course wich ends on Minmus/Mün and then, after dropping the burning stage make a midcourse correction for a periapsis.

Or you can turn debris off in settings.im not sure what will happen if you keep it off for a long time then one day switch it back on...lol.i can only imagine.

Nothing. If you set it to 0 it's not just not displaying it, no debris is created at all.
