Calling all astronomers past present and future!

I made a trip over to two sites on the Minmalayans, I'll start on naming it.

Liftoff!

The highest mountain is in sight.

The entire area is the Minmalayan mountain range. Divided into 3 areas.

-Mahalangur minmal the northern area, consisting of 2 high peaks (one of them has a surprise!), the higest mountain is called Minmerest and the second peak(south of Minmerest)

I'll edit this post later. Halfeay through I had to go away.

Here is a picture taken by Cartographer I, piloted by Jebediah Kerman, in a polar orbit around Kerbin. It is a picture of what I would like to call "the strait of Kafrica", a body of water between the continent of Kafrica (the area on the top of the screen) and the Kaharan desert (the area on the bottom of the screen), which is the desert region of Kerbin.

The coordinates are approx. 14* 4' 4" N x 98* 13' 38" W

The * is the degree symbol.

in-case the image doesn't work, here is a link to the imgur page:

Lets get a dev in here to give some definition on how the celestial map works.

According to Damian, (is that how you spell his name?) one of the devs wrote a generator that randomly placed stars in a 3d space, a picture was taken, and the picture was used for the skybox.

Cool thanks. Hey Super another thought: a map of Kerbin with labels. I did a google search for "map of kerbin" and found this image, but the link to the forum post was blocked for me.

No i think that was a playful organization of Kerbin. If all goes well there could potentially be an official map. Idigfig doesn't seem to have any meaning, etc. Grab a map of Kerbin and start throwing names on.

New data containing multiple pictures has come in from the Gemini space telescope in near geosynchronous orbit above the impact site has just been received. This first batch of images is of possible nebulae.

Another batch of data containing images of a new galaxy, multiple stars, constellations, and possibly some star clusters is due to be sent later in the day.

Due to some mishaps, the images were stuck in processing for an extended period of time. Now that we have finally gotten all of the coffee stains out of the film, I am proud to present to you the findings of the Gemini telescope and crew. The images in this publication are confirmed in what they are or what they look like and have been named. Another upload is coming with entities that are still under question or have not been named.

A cartographer satellite, code-named "eagle eye", is currently under construction. As of now, the rate of construction has the launch slated for late afternoon today. Images of Kerbin are not scheduled to be taken for at least an hour after orbit has been achieved. Updates on progress will be posted as it is made.

THIS SOUNDS AWESOME!

Do each of our respective Kerbin skies match? Like, is it a fixed system or is it randomly generated on each load of the game or per user?

Right now it's just a skybox texture.

I'm pretty sure Squad has said the background star field will eventually be procedurally generated.

Presumably we'll be seeing stars of the procedurally generated galaxy where KSP takes place, stars that we can actually get to.
