Pro and con of the Jet Engine compared to Turbojet Engine?

Ahah only this?? :D

Yes. Pretty much only this. If you're planning on staying low, say, making an atmospheric fighter or something, go with the standard jets.

Anything that you're intending to spend extended time above 10Km, use the Turbo Jets.

EDIT: Or, the standard jets are pretty good for VTOL engines too, since you generally aren't landing at 15Km.

also turbojets have less thrust below 10km than basic jets do at Low altitudes. makes the basic jet better for jet based lifters. since those lifters work poorly above 10km.

One other (though not terribly important usually) detail that may make a difference is that the basic jet engine is significantly shorter than the Turbojet. If you don't need the craft to reach high altitudes, and/or have problems with the engine getting shaved off on takeoff, the basic jet engine may be better.

I think it is kind of funny that the turbofans work better at high altitude than the turbojet engines in the game, when IRL turbofans work better at low altitudes (more thrust, better fuel efficiency) and the turbojet engines work best at high altitudes and high speeds. I personally would have had turbojet engines, low bypass turbofans, and high bypass turbofans, with turbojets being best at high altitude/speed, low bypass being a good compromise engine, and the high bypass engines for low altitude/high fuel efficiency. I don't know why C7 didn't do that in the first place, but then he might not have known about jet engines.

Turbo jet is more efficient at high altitudes, jet engine is more efficient at low altitudes

Also, the turbojet has a far higher top speed (2400 m/s rather than 1000 m/s), and has higher thrust starting around 500 m/s or so, which you're likely to be reaching above 10km.

The basic jet is more fuel-efficient than the turbojet at low-speed flight: it has peak thrust at a standstill. If you want to hover at 30km, use a basic jet rather than a turbojet. I'm not sure why you'd want that, but whatever floats your hovercraft. The basic jet is also slightly lighter, which helps with the hovercraft idea.

Here is the data, taken from the part.cfg files, comparing the two jet engines: http://i.imgur.com/iRkpRRv.jpg

In addition to being more compact, the basic jet engine is also 0.2 tons lighter. The turbojet is much more useful in getting to orbit, flying high altitudes, etc. The basic jet is useful at low speeds and low altitudes, but not much else.
