Part Organization

I can't possibly be the only one becoming annoyed with having to scour through my ever-growing parts list. Would it be too much to ask for a mod that would allow new part categories? Perhaps a drop down menu that could contain any number of user created part groups?

If I'm missing this @ the Space Port, please don't hesitate to scold me for my ignorance. If it doesn't exist, then I challenge you brilliant mod creators to work your coding magic and make this no-brainer "must have" mod for people who have extra parts!

More categories would be good, or a way we can create our own without plugin requirements.

I would love to see subcategories such a 'staging engines'. 'fairings', 'communication equipment', 'scientific sensors', 'power equipment' etc. It would also be nice to have all the engines/fuel tanks/command pods subgrouped by size. Could really clean up the menus and make building a lot faster.

There's this one, but it's not done yet. Also you can't open your crafts because of the name change.

I'd love to see a sorter that filtered parts by the mod pack the came with. If I know I'm looking for a HOME part or a kethane processor it'd be nice not to have to wade through all of the utilites tab where so much seems to end up. Even worse is trying to find a vanilla stack decoupler in the "structural" tab and getting bogged down in the 9001 new B9 parts that are also there

I've been annoyed by this too.

I noticed the part sorter mod but hate the idea of breaking existing designs. What I've been wondering is whether we can just override & replace the entire left hand UI with a totally brand new interface... or just overlay another on top of the old (the ugly option). Ideally we'd even be able to create new tabs/groups and drag & drop parts for custom organizing & sorting. Is any of that feasible for a mod?
