How do I change vessel while a kerbal is on a ladder?

I've seen many craft files and videos showing them putting a "ladder" on their rovers to serve as a chair, but when I make a kerbal grab a ladder, It says that I can't change vessels. please help, my kerbal is very far away from the lander and he can't ride my rover!

It seems that it sometimes allows you to change vessels when a Kerbal is on a ladder, and other times it doesn't. For me, it seemed to only work when I got out of range (2.5 km) of other craft, so try that.

If you are still in physics range, then you can use [ or ] to cycle through ships.

I did it, I dunno why but I just reduced the number of nearby vessels, On the moon I have 3 rovers 2 kerbal 1 lander, I aborted 2 rovers and put the 1 kerbal into the lander and it seemed to work
