How to get 3D models of your ships

Just a random idea but I see no reason why it should work.

So there is a program that can apparently generate 3d models from pictures.http://apps.123dapp.com/catch/

So combine that with a bit of photoshopping pictures of your ship( to remove backgrounds, UI in the SPH)

Sorry about random errors, my PC is lagging from being on so long and my brain is lagging because no sleep :D

I'd be interested to hear of your success on that; it's pretty persnickety from what I hear.

The easier method of course is just to write a plugin. After all, the engine already has a 3d model -- no need to render it out and then try to reconstruct it using these fancy techniques.

The problem I see here is a lot of the detail on the models is surface texturing designed to give the appearance of detail. the panel lines we see on the wings and in some of the tanks aren't actually modeled in their just surface imaging. So a 3d printed model would be really flat and smooth ... you would need a lot of finishing work to make it look right.
