Pending impact - 36 hours to save Kerbin

Recommended Posts

Um, how do I open it to get the ship thingy?

it isn't a SHIP it is a entire save file.

in your KSP folders, Saves, make a new folder called "Challenge" or something and put this file in it.

run KSP, and load THIS save.

Once the challenge is over, I'd love to get a .craft link to this thing. I'm curious as to all the crazy things I could do with it, least of all just rolling it around the KSC.

Link to Craft-File added in the spoiler section at the end of the original post.

Wonderful! Time to roll around the Kerbal Space Center in a monstrosity that looks more like it belongs off the coast of Normandy during World War II than anything else. (Warning, the image linked may act as a spoiler, you have been warned.)

  • 3 weeks later...

This was my first challenge ever! I built a skycrane with lots of parachutes to go for the Alien Landing achievement, but when the grappling hooks refused to attach, I was in a pickle. Fortunately, I was able to use the object's nature and get Alien Landing anyway! Definitely a blast!

Is there any way I can splice this persistant with my persistant? I have remote tech comm sats in orbit and do not want to set up a comm network while and impacter is hurtling towards the planet.

Sure, you just need to do a little text-file editing:

- Open your persistent.sfs in a text-editor (Make a backup first in case you mess it up)

- Open the scenarios persistent.sfs in the text editor. Copy the VESSEL block for the "Unknown Impact Object" (lines 93 - 17668) into your persistent file and save it.

now that the thread rating system is back, I'm stopping by to give 5 stars. one of the most fun challenges so far!

I will probably do this again to complete the other achievments.

By the way how many parts does that have?

it's written in the first post, about 450. be prepared for that :)

Maybe its the fact I'm new to interplanetary travel or the fact that I spliced my persistant and this one, but I' can't get anywhere near the objects. I can manage to set it as the target, but then something weird happens. My closest intercept, no matter which way I burn, will do something like to following: 17,800Km, 16,000Km, 15,000Km, 18,000Km,...16,000Km, 18,000Km. The closest intercept difference is oscillating between two definite values. So, is it me or am I having a technical problem?

This is a known problem - as I said in the mission post. Intersects are not displayed in the map view, you have to do perform an eyeballed rondevouz with the thing. Bring enough high-thrust engines and prepare for some action burns :)
