Less Lag at Laythe?

Your right its does look similar lol

Mines 9360L plus some smaller tanks,, I used 4 of the KSPX nukes which is equal to 10 stock LVN's in total. I didn't fire the 4 LVN's on the planes for the main burns because.. Well.. The pilots in the b9 cockpits would have been somewhat upset, and a little bit more fluorescent green after the long capture burn!

I've considered doing what your doing and crowd sourcing for the project, but its hard to find people that use all the same mods. And people have different views on what mods are balanced enough to consider using them, so I've been going solo! Although I will probably borrow (and properly credit) some ships from the exchange, and of course Temstar, to whom we all owe credit for his launchers!

Well, crowdsourcing is hard... But you can get around some stuff you don´t like to do - I don´t like building space stations and ascent stages, so I can delegate that :D I keep my project stock :)

In fact a lot of stuff I use is borrowed (Shade and Gladius from Macey Dean...) :D And most of my project is flying interplanetary on Temstars tankers and engine Clusters :D

But co-ordinating whole thing is hard and we even have started to go interplanetary yet...

I also got an inbound Laythe encounter possibility while adjusting for Jool periapsis and inclination, and didn't dare take it because I have no idea how to handle an aero capture at Laythe without first having captured at Jool. I imagine it would involve going terrifyingly low and getting very hot.

16,500 meters, more or less.

And after aerobraking (but not capturing) at Jool (around 120k), I find I usually hit Laythe's atmosphere with a periapsis of about 20km in order to capture.

ComradeGoat: Maybe - do you have parachute? You may deploy it and then cut it - and vent eva to repack it :)

The vehicle was unmanned, so I couldn't do that!

A small burn fixed it. Then I refuelled, landed 15km away from the guys I'm trying to rescue. One tried to walk there and fell off a cliff and died. Tried to take the lander off to get nearer the other guy and it toppled into the terrain and exploded, with over 1000 litres of fuel on board.

This isn't going very well. I have one more lander and will try to land it on flatter terrain, but targeting the landing is seriously hard.

Well, thats why I want for my Laythe landing use mainly SSTO shuttles - you can pick, where you want to land :D

It is an SSTO, but it's VTOL, not a plane. My spaceplane designs don't land very well, and certainly don't handle well enough in the lower atmosphere to pick a landing site!

My problem is that I need to pop the 'chutes to slow down, but once that's done it's no-longer possible to fine-tune the landing: you're pretty much going where it puts you.
