Which docking port to use with shielded docking port?

Recommended Posts

Im thinking of a new design for my deep-space space-station (the DSSS)

If i use the shielded docking port on my space station, which other ports will pair with it when docking in space?

Also, do i have to have the 'exposed' docking port extended from my ship, like on a beam or small fuselage, if its on a flat surface (say side of large fuel tank) will there be enough clearance to dock or will it hit the shield doors?

The Shielded Docking Ports will dock with every other docking Port, except for the junior ports. Also you don´t have to extend the dockingport out, as the shield doors have no hitbox.

You can use the Clamp-O-Tron, the shielded docking port, or the In-Line docking port. Those three are all the same size. The Clamp-O-Tron Jr. Is the only stock port that won't match the other three

If you are trying to dock two tanks together side by side you physically Can do it, the shield won't get in the way, but you might have a little bit of a visibility problem coming it, and if your somewhat new at docking you will most likely have the two fuel tanks bumping into each other as you get close! It will work tho :)

The shielded docking port is the same size as the standard Clamp-O-Tron docking port. I never had a problem with the shield doors getting hit. The port does extend a little when you open it.

<edit> I was a bit slow there.

Indeed the shielded and in-line ports extend a bit when activated and are the same size as each other and the clamp-o-tron. The 'flaps' that open from the shielded port do not currently seem to clip with other objects and won't get in your way.
