RawChicken
Hi, I wondered if you could launch a ship from kerbin using only ion engines. I needed a calculator for this, so I made it.It is a excel . xls file with a table that calculates the total weight of your ship in different planets, total thrust, energy balance.. All you need to know in order to desing a ship to be launched vertically from any planet! You can select different number of parts and everything updates automatically. Please qive it a try! I took me some time to do it!HOW TO USE:You only need to change the "Quantity" column. Also, the planets gravity box located at the top part. You have a list of all planets and gravities below.Total Thrust box must be higher than Total Weight box in order to have lift.Ask any questions you have!http://www.fileswap.com/dl/McSxFeYmTy/ Edited May 8, 2013 by RawChicken
LawsOfFire
well. you cant launch from Kerbin since an ion engine is too low power to even lift itself. even without adding power or xenon
Dasemay
i will have to try it. looks very useful
RawChicken
well. you cant launch from Kerbin since an ion engine is too low power to even lift itself. even without adding power or xenonThat is why I made this. You can change the gravity value and see if it would work in other planets wuth diferent gravity
Plur303
I don't mean to belittle the work you put into the spreadsheet, but the Kerbal Engineer mod will show you the thrust to weight ratio of your rocket, its delta V, and burn time for all stages, on any planet or moon. It also gives you all sorts of data in flight. And unlike mechjeb, it does not have any sort of autopilot. It just gives you loads of helpful information.http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/0-18-1-kerbal-engineer-redux-v0-5/
RawChicken
Yeah, I know, but I was feeling like doing it I rather using kerbal engineer redux also
