Markarian421
Youtube uses some kind of automated system to identify possibly infringing content, and it's absurdly bad. It forwards notices to various companies telling them their stuff might be infringed, and whether by laziness or automation some companies automatically say yes to all of them. There is no real appeal unless you happen to find a contact at the company that rubber stamped it and get them to fix it. In other words, YouTube errs on the side of stupidly banning random stuff for no good reason and gets to tell everyone they are doing their part, and it's up to you to fix it if you want to keep using YouTube, but don't expect any help from them. Example: I once posted a video of a volunteer orchestra performing a Mozart piece (recorded at the request of the conductor). Youtube's robots identified it as Bobby McFerrin (???), and appeared to shop the claim around to three different potential holders of Bobby McFarrin copyrights. Two said no but Sony confirmed, even after an appeal, that I had recorded a Bobby McFerrin performance and had violated their copyright. I only got it fixed by getting the email addresses of the right people at Sony. I think my brother had some cat video tagged under similar circumstances, and these are far from the most absurd examples I've heard of.
lobsterbark
Remember Pandemic? Star-wars battlefront, destroy all humans, marvelous little games, once EA got hold of them they went down the plughole.Remember c&c? Those games where awesome, and guess what the first thing EA did? They tried to turn it into an fps franchise.
Stealth2668
No, it's EA. EA did this rather quietly with Battlefield 3 where they slowly banned channels with BF3 content on them, now it stands to reason that it's EA doing this with Simcity 5 instead of KSP whose developers are against DRM.It's not YouTube's fault either: EA simply uses the mechanic where, if you report enough videos on a channel for copyright infringement, the channel is automatically banned without human review. You can ask for a review and it's likely that will resolve the problem, but frankly there are so many copyright claims a day the amount of money it would cost Google to hire legal staff to review them all is just ridiculous.Try again without the EA shi- ahem, I mean "stuff", OP.I think that was only during the alpha. I think it was in the ToS that you can't upload footage of the alpha but I think it might have been ok during the beta since it was open to everyone. Logan.Darklighter
EA ruins everything they touch. I'm normally not an "anti-corporation" kind of guy. But EA has EARNED their bad reputation. 2nd Year in a row Worst Company in America beating out Comcast AND Bank of America? Yeah - I can believe they'd pull something like this. thegibster
I can assure you' date=' Squad is not behind this. I would suspect some copyright trolls.[b']Capt'n SkunkyKSP Community ManagerI didn't think Squad would have done it. I liked sharing the great work they're doing and it makes me angry they just turn me off without explaining why. The least courtesy they could do is tell someone what was wrong. Worst customer service ever.
thegibster
Just in case anyone was curious, here is the message YouTube sends you. Note how generic it is. We'd like to inform you that due to repeated or severe violations of our Community Guidelines your YouTube account has been suspended. After review we determined that activity in your account violated our Community Guidelines, which prohibit spam, scams or commercially deceptive content. Please be aware that you are prohibited from accessing, possessing or creating any other YouTube accounts. For more information about account terminations and how our Community Guidelines are enforced, please visit our Help Center at https://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=92486&hl=en-US.My channel was in no way spam, scam, or commercially deceptive. It was me playing KSP, plain and simple. I didn't try to monetize my channel and I never placed links to my channel anywhere. I just used the tags to tag the videos for keywords related to ksp. I would love to know what "repeat violations" means specifically to my account.
