Game Crashing when launching large ships?

With the larger ships that I have been launching lately when i click on the lauch button the game stops responding. I have a Macbook Pro Retina with 16gb of Ram and a 1gb GPU and have been using more or less default settings. Anyone know why this may be happening, and how to fix it?

what about your processor? or it may be your graphics card

things like RAM are less important unless you know you have physically run out of RAM
