They might be trying to figure out why none of them gets to go to space, and the guy in front is lecturing them on "Not dropping out of school and going to a good engineering college" and all that... if Kerbal engineering schools are even comparable to ours

Kerbal engineering schools are probably better than ours. We have to abide by these odd things called "safety guidelines." While kerbals are taught this important lesson: If it blows up the first time, put some more struts, if it blows up again, have Jeb pilot it.

I think they're trying to find out who inhaled all that Xenon gas that *was* in a probe destined for Duna, which is now destined to sit in a 75x75 km orbit until it orbit decays or it is destroyed.

Nahh... that is the shop steward organising a strike over safety issues. Apparently someone keeps dropping empty SRB tanks on the roof of the VAB.
