if you were going to the trouble to cheat like this... why wouldn't you just check mark infinite fuel?

I have done this with toroidal tanks before but the problem is once you add more than 4-5 of any tanks internally is they start acting like a slinky!! Compress and wobble in every direction to no end even after I tried struts to hold them in place internally. I HAVE used FL-T800's inside of j64's to more than double their apparent volume of fuel, that worked wonders

Also, if you overdo it, the fuel flow algorithm gets all confused and you end up with fuel tanks that are still full but the fuel can't reach the engines...

Indeed. I needed to install fuel lines on each of the tanks inside the jumbos, which was tricky. I couldn't get them to all connect at the same time because they were clipped so close together. Solution was to install an Oscar B on top of each of the 800's then run the fuel lines to them instead, since they were more easily targetable than the 800's

Because in real life, you don't have to have every single part on the outside of your ship.

You can put stuff insiiiiiiide of others. Like magic.

This isn't without its downside. Any fuel tank you cannot see from the outside, is a fuel tank you cannot refuel at a rendezvous. And it's not like you're actually benefitting from this in any way. The weight is still there. It's no more efficient... oh, and it might break things.

But sure, if you want, I guess.

P.S., the toroidal fuel tank is actually designed to be 'nested' into other parts. You can wedge one between two fuel tanks, or a fuel tank and pod, engine, etc... and it will be hidden for just that extra little bit of fuel. It also looks nice exposed tucked into the top or bottom of a radial fuel tank.

Since you're not using the infinite fuel cheat, wouldn't it be simpler to use a fuel tank with an edited config file so that you have much more fuel? You could have an X300-32 with 10000L of fuel for instance..
