Exporting models FROM KSP into C4D/Maya

Recommended Posts

Hey there guys, I'm posting because I've seen on these forums and many other search results post about how to create a model is a 3D Program such as Maya or Cinema 4D and put it into KSP. But I was curious if it was possible/if anyone knew how to export/take a model from KSP and place it in a 3D Model Programming? Models being such as the Kerbals themselves.

There are a couple threads regarding hwo to do this with the old .dae models, but it requires hex editing. To my knowledge, there is no way that you can edit .mu or .mbm extensions at this time in their native state.

Its a sort of binarization to prevent model theft.

I doubt it, given that they've shared the source code that write them in the part tools, making a mu to dae converter straightforward (which isn't the same as quick or not much work). More likely it's simply not a priority for squad because they already have all of the original models.

Sadly that is considered model theft. If you see any animations with Kerbals in them, they've been modeled by hand. if you want to get better at modeling, Try doing it yourself, try replicating the Kerbal design and play around with it.

For someone determined, NOTHING rendered on a computer is 100% protected by obfuscation. Ever. Not video, not code, and certainly not graphics - 3D or otherwise.

I won't detail on how to "rip" them, but if you're really interested you can find ways people have developed over the years. Learning to model for oneself is much better though. Don't waste your time unless you absolutely NEED to figure that stuff out for a project - every time I have ever tried I found it easier to model for myself than to sneak a copy of someone else's work and modify it. It's just better to learn to model efficiently and quickly.
