Am I the only one...

I use the F5 key a LOT... but only use F9 if the game crashes or a bug occurs. If I crash, then I crash and if I'm lucky it's rescue mission time. But if the game decided to fall over, fold my ship in two due to some weird bug, lock up, crash to desktop, get a "Fatal Error in GC" or any of the numerous bugs that happen with an alpha version of a game then of course I am going to be doing a reload.

I quicksave, but more or less frequently depending on what I'm doing. If its a simple Mun run then I probably won't quicksave, or maybe once just before departing for home. If I'm doing something more challenging then I quicksave more frequently.

KSP is not stable (although for alpha its darn good), weird things just happen. Periodically (as just happened now) it goes the way of a strutless launch and falls over. I've seen so much weirdness I can't consider not quicksaving. Once I landed on Val and the camera get stuck at a funny angle, another time I switched craft on Eeloo and on return to the first one it just randomly exploded, and I've had all the planets merge into one!! I could list more, several per planet, point is; non-realistic **** happens, quicksave allows you to remain in control of the madness.

Also, practice makes perfect and real pilots spend hours in simulators. I use quicksave to do repeats of things like landings to get better at them.

If I'm testing a new design and I've not got the design right yet then I restart mission and go back to the drawing board - this is "simulation mode" for me. But if I'm doing a mission with a tested craft and I believe I have a good plan, but end up derping up, pilot error or mis-calc, then that is call to send a rescue mission.

btw, if you don't quicksave the game still autosaves and you can reload the last one. Just delete your current quicksave.sfs, make a copy of persistent.sfs and rename it to quicksave.sfs and then you can reload that. It will auto save after most burns, landings and also just periodically.

I tend to quick save after most of my maneuvers, as they tend to be hard to correct. But I very rarely have to quick load. It all depends on your playing style and how much time you've put into it.
