I personally don't use MechJeb, but if people want to use a mod that enhances their experience of the game in way that pleases them ... then does it really matter? No.

I find more satisfaction in accomplishing difficult tasks with my own skills rather than relying on a bot.

But yes, mechjeb is a controversial topic. Of course, it's only controversial because there are a lot of self-centered people out there who feel compelled to pretend that theyre wounded whenever someone does something that they disagree with, even if the action has no chance of affecting them at all.

The issue most non-MJ users have with MJ isn't the mod itself.. or even the people who use it.. It's people bragging about accomplishments that were the result of them pushing a button and watching, instead of actually doing anything challenging. The people bragging about doing X or landing on Y, etc, who just had MJ do it for them is pretty much a slap in the face to people who actually took the time and put forth the effort to learn to do the same things on their own.

Bragging about building something that manages to make it back to kerbin from eve is one thing, but don't brag about actually flying the mission when all you did was push a button and watch.

I like mechjeb for doin stuff that is just tedious - like launching the fourth identical part to my space-fuel-depot - also is nice in the VAB for checking Delta-v and TWR. However I try to fly more intresting missions by hand.
