Jool IB Rocket - for when my Jool V is overkill! (now 30% more on fire during ascent)

Recommended Posts

Not a major addition to my shipyard, it can't fly to the Mun or drop a complex lander on Duna... but I really needed a smaller workhorse rocket for lifting smaller payload to orbit. The obvious next step after my new Jool V Munbug Launcher was to create a matching Jool IB!

Just enough DV to get a Munbug CSM into low orbit. - The variant shown is an RCS transporter for restocking my station RCS tanks... If you put a standard Munbug on you can perform LOI return missions etc.

My Jool V (and munbug CSM / Lander) can be found here!

If you are on fire on the way up wouldn't you be going to fast for a efficient accent?

Indeed, you'd need to throttle down to prevent excessive energy losses due to drag, but this launch vehicle is so big and overpowered, it doesn't care about drag

The Saturn IB had 8 smaller engines in the first stage btw, but nice work anyway

It only does it very briefly just before first stage separation, you can throttle it down a little or enjoy the fireworks :)

Yes I know... but the small engines in KSP are just too weak, I spent ages trying! They will give you a maximum total thrust of 1720 which isn't enough to lift this rocket off the ground... 4 mainsails gives you 6000! I'm really hoping they will release some more rockets soon as there needs to be something in between the mainsail and the smaller rockets.

hum neph, if you start this way, i can show you the second revision of my saturn 1-b here ... - which have what looks like 8 engines on the bottom, early engine cutoff for the center engines, and advanced interstage and payload fairings :)

don't forget Mulbin made his Jool rocket series fairly consistent early on, and he only aimed for a more closer saturn look recently with the Munbug VIII :) (here, we have the Munbug VI S-IVB directly ported from his first jool V with it's full fairing) - plus, judging from the first post date, it was made before the Skippers were avaible :)

I know what mulbin wanted to do and he did it very well. But this might be a tiny bit overpowered. It's like a Space Shuttle with F1-engines. :D
