Blender help, please.

Recommended Posts

It's me again, sorry.

I am trying to join two meshes in Blender and I have watched tutorials, read tutorials online, searched, etc. I can't get them to stick. In the videos it says to be in object mode and shift+right click each mesh and then select join (or ctrl+J).

1: shift+right click automatically selects both. They can't be selected individually.

2: When I click join it says, "No mesh data to join"

These are the meshes. I do have them overlapping when I try to join.

The join command just makes combines two objects into the same object, which it looks from the screenshot like has already happened. (Which is also why clicking selects both of them). If you're trying to make it so that it's once continuous mesh, you'll need to go into edit mode and "merge" individual verticies. Or, an easier solution would be to make the shape you're going for by starting with a cylinder and working it into the shape you want

The Loop cut tool works perfectly for that. Simply hit Ctrl+R and a purple line should appear on the model. Click where you want the loop to go, position it as desired and left click. if you want it in the center right click when your positioning it. You can add more cuts by scrolling the mouse wheel up or hitting the + and - keys.
